Join us for a journey into the world of wool at our upcoming chapter in the Art Making in the Garden series. Delve into the art of felting, where wool transforms through the application of soap and water. All ages welcome to any of our Art Making in the Garden series! Children under the age of 12 require a parent or guardian chaperone.
Felt is not your standard pre-cut sheets from the store. Study the ancient, sustainable art form of felting as we create functional pieces of art using materials direct from their source! Participants will learn about and work with raw sheep wool from our 3 ewes: Clover, Peach, and Hazelnut. Using wool, soap, and water we will make one of a kind pieces of felt. Meet Our Art Making in the Garden Collaborator: Artists' Exchange 🎨🌿
Artists' Exchange is a 501(c)3 non-profit arts collaborative with the mission to create an atmosphere in which creativity, learning and discovery converge and individuality is celebrated. Their location in Rolfe Square in Cranston RI is home to multiple art studios, a ceramics studio, gallery, and theater, providing a dynamic environment for artistic exploration. And here's something special about the sheep at Mowry Commons—they're not just charming companions, they're integral to the Farm Therapy program run by Artists’ Exchange in collaboration with Revive the Roots. These gentle creatures play a vital role in serving adults with disabilities, providing them with meaningful work and a sense of purpose through caring for farm animals. Meet your Instructor: Shannon Casey 🎨
With a wealth of expertise in a variety of mediums including ceramics, painting, illustration and of course wool processing and felting, Shannon brings a blend of experience and passion to the table. Not only an artist, as director of Artists’ Exchange, Shannon guides a team of artists in providing classes for the community. Before assuming this position, Shannon served as an instructor and programs coordinator. Beyond her role at Artists' Exchange, Shannon is deeply involved in community arts engagement through her work as Secretary for the Cranston Arts Commission and a Board Member for Revive the Roots. Shannon's journey into the arts began with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Moravian University. With Shannon Casey as your instructor, get ready to embark on a journey of discovery, with felt! 🎨✨ ***Only 15 spaces available in the this workshop.
